Welcome to Women Making Changes–The Backstage Tour

Why move to a new site?

When I started my experiment two years ago I never had the intention of being a “real blogger.”  Don’t get me wrong, I read and enjoyed lots of blogs, I just never thought of myself as being one of them. Starting the Dao was a way for Tracy and I to connect with each other and keep ourselves accountable.  If we could inspire someone along the way that would be a bonus.

One of the biggest surprises for me when I started describing what it was like to add something I love back into my life, was how much I enjoyed writing.  Not only was it fun to write for the blog but I made a lot of online friends, and had the chance to connect with lots of people I never would have otherwise.  As time went on I started realizing that what we had done for ourselves could also work for others and I believed with a passion that adding something you love to do back into your life could change someone’s life for the better.

Tracy and I decided we wanted to make the effort to reach more people, especially women and mothers.  We started taking classes on how to do just that and it became clear that The Dao just wasn’t set up to reach more people.  We had started the Dao as a journal, not a blog with a message.  We thought about revamping the Dao.  We asked others with much more experience than us and the answer was unanimous– start a new blog, with your new intention.

So we did!

The Meaning Behind Our Logo

We knew we were starting this new site with a new intention, clarity, and purpose.  We wanted to be intentional about the logo we chose as well.  We knew that butterflies and dragonflies represented change, because they go through a metamorphosis.  We read about them both and found this about the dragonfly on the Dragonfly Site where you can read even more about them.

“The dragonfly, in almost every part of the world symbolizes change and change in the perspective of self-realization; and the kind of change that has its source in mental and emotional maturity and the understanding of the deeper meaning of life.

The dragonfly’s agile flight and its ability to move in all six directions exude a sense of power and poise – something that comes only with age and maturity. (Much like we mothers have to do!)
The dragonfly can move at an amazing 45 miles an hour, hover like a helicopter, fly backwards like a hummingbird, fly straight up, down and on either side. What is mind-blowing is the fact that it can do this while flapping its wings a mere 30 times a minute while mosquitoes and houseflies need to flap their wings 600 and 1000 times a minute.

The awe-inspiring aspect is how the dragonfly accomplishes its objectives with utmost simplicity, effectiveness and well, if you look at proportions, with 20 times more power in each of its wing strokes when compared to other insects.  The best part is that the dragonfly does it with elegance and grace that can be compared to a veteran ballet dancer. If this is not a brazen, overkill in terms of display of raw power, what is?

The dragonfly normally lives most of its life as a nymph or an immature. It flies only for a fraction of its life and usually not more than a few months. This adult dragonfly does it all in these few months and leaves nothing to be desired. This style of life symbolizes and exemplifies the virtue of living IN the moment and living life to the fullest. By living in the moment you are aware of who you are, where you are, what you are doing, what you want, what you don’t and make informed choices on a moment-to-moment basis.

This ability lets you live your life without regrets like the beautiful dragonfly.”

When we read this we knew that the dragonfly was the perfect fit.  But we also wanted to include something from our past as well. We started with a key, which represented unlocking your happiness, inserting something you love into your everyday life, and to Keep Enjoying Yourself.  So we added dragonfly wings to the key!

Picking Colors with Intention

In the past, Tracy and I picked colors for the site the same way we might pick out a dress:  “Oh, that’s a pretty color!  Do you like this one?  Oh, yes! I like it too!”  But this site was about intention and so we chose our colors with a message in mind.

Tracy wanted something that represented clarity.  This was important to her and I agreed.  She said that a clear blue like the Caribbean ocean made her think of clarity.  So a clear blue was picked.

I wanted a color that represented taking action.  Looking at pictures of the Caribbean, I noticed the orange of the sunrises and knew that the bright and cheerful orange was our accent color.  The warm glow of inspiration to take action.

A third color was needed to tie it all together and we chose the darker blue of deep water–a solid foundation that ran deep.

These are also the colors of dragonflies, another link in the chain of our message to our readers.

We hope this new site provides you with a safe place to experiment with changing your life for the better.  That, while here, you gain the clarity you need and the inspiration to take action.  We hope that WMC helps you find a key to unlocking your happiness, and living a life without regrets.
